A downloadable fanzine

The 2023 Meaties is a 16-page, black-and-white, half-letter fanzine about 6 different cool indie TTRPGs from 2023 (as judged solely by me, Christian Sorrell).

For a while, I’ve been joking about doing my own Official and Exclusive TTRPG Awards, and this is exactly what that is! Inside, you’ll see exactly why I chose to have the awards take on this easily home-printable fanzine form and what games I selected from the last year (or so) as my stand out favorites from indie and hobbyist creators.

The winners will be getting (if they are up for giving me their mailing addresses) a special color print variant of the zine, limited to 7 or so copies, as well as some MCGW/Meaties stickers. Anyone paying for their copy of the zine from this page will help offset that cost (but I'll do it no matter what, even if everyone picks up the zine for free). Otherwise, this zine won't be hitting print in any official capacity. Print it off at home! Give it to your friends!

This was a really fun project to put together over the last few days, and I hope you enjoy reading it. It’s definitely something a bit less formal and more personal than a lot of my other work.

The zine originally appeared on my monthly newsletter, Missives from the MeatCastle. If you'd like to get stuff like this (including TTRPG supplements each and every month) straight to your inbox, you can subscribe HERE.

Also, the look and feel of this zine are  very inspired by Aaron King's annual Favorite Books zines (but my real life handwriting is very bad so I saved you all having to try and parse that).

A lovely look at the year - and nothing but banger recommendations. Excited for the 2024 Meaties <3

Thanks for checking it out! I'm excited to do it again next year for sure!

This is such a cool idea, and well written and put together.

Thanks! It was a ton of fun to do. I'd missed doing this more casual/personal style of zine and take some time to hand draw the zine covers was a lot of fun too.
